The handful of people who read this blog already know....
We're having a baby!! :)
So I will attempt to update this blog with any news of our upcoming arrival.
How it began:
We found out on Friday, June 15th - 2 days before Father's Day. I was planning on going out with friends the next day and drinking would definitely be involved...so I thought I better make sure I wasn't pregnant before consuming all this alcohol. I didn't have any symptoms and didn't think I was, so imagine my surprise when the double line showed up! I collected myself, went down to show Ryan...who stared at me for a while saying "nuh-uh.....no way.... really?" as I'm showing him the stick. I then quickly went to the store to get another test (different brand even just to make sure...) and sure enough, another positive! THEN, not wanting to get my hopes up, I looked online at the odds of a false positive (let alone 2 false positives) and soon felt pretty confident I was indeed pregnant! I started researching ob-gyns and Ryan went into the manly protector role listing off all the things we needed to get done: make a will, figure out insurance paperwork, get the room ready, trim the trees in the backyard, go grocery shopping for special "pregnant lady" food....
First Dr. Visit:
Thursday, July 12th - Kansas City Women's Clinic - Dr. Errick Arroyo
It went great. I peed in a cup, they took some blood, checked my uterus (right on track with 7 weeks) and gave me some info and more prenatal samples. He said I should strive to gain 30-35 lbs by the end (I thought this was high...we'll see), and that we will hear the heartbeat at our next appointment in a month!
All in All:
Things are going great so far! Dealt with some crummy "morning" sickness during vacation the other week, but since then it's been much better. Feeling some cramping sporadically and a general bloated feeling. The fatigue is just now starting to kick in. But I'm hoping my crazy job will be a blessing instead of a curse...so far the constantly-moving, fast-paced days of preschool life haven't let me think twice about how I'm feeling, lol.
And as a jumping off point for all the pregnancy pictures to come, here's a first official must-stand-to-the-side-and-show-how-I'm-not-showing-yet picture.
Week 6:

Congrats again! I am so glad you are doing blog updates. This is a great way to stay in "the loop"
ReplyDeleteExcited for you both,
Mark
Yay! So happy for you both (and us for being aunt/uncle :) And as the "official" medical professional spokesperson for the family...30-35 lb weight gain is especially necessary-especially for how tiny you are! We're thinking of you-and love the reinvention of your blog!!
